A 399cc water-cooled in-line 2-cylinder engine that produces maximum power at 9,500 rpm. The engine has been designed to be torqueful and easy to handle at low and mid-range speeds, which are most frequently used in daily travel, and powerful at high speeds, by carefully considering the valve size, bore x stroke ratio, and port shape. The valve train is a DOHC that allows for a high degree of freedom in designing the valve angle, port shape, and combustion chamber shape, and uses roller rocker arms and silent cam chains that are effective in reducing friction. In addition, the engine is designed to be compact and have low vibration by adopting a 180° phase crank and positioning the balancer on the back of the cylinder. It also achieves excellent quietness.
